From a shared love of cricket, curry and a good cuppa, the relationship between the UK and India has always been built on strong cultural connections.

Now, from 15th July 2026, that relationship enters an exciting new chapter as the UK–India Free Trade Agreement comes into force.

The agreement is set to reduce tariffs, simplify trade processes and create new opportunities for businesses on both sides of the corridor.

Whether you're looking to export British products into one of the world's fastest-growing economies or source goods from India's vast manufacturing and technology sectors, now is the time to prepare.

Here's what to do next as a UK Exporter:

  • Register with HMRC to complete origin declarations. This takes about 10 minutes, you will be given a unique reference number.
  • After registration, Exporters must then complete an Annex 3B origin declaration template and consider the Rules of Origin.
  • Ensure your details are validated and shared with Indian customs for verification.
  • Only once confirmed by Indian customs, are you verified for preferential tariffs.
